NENT Landfill, Hong Kong — OTAR Case Study
| Location | Hong Kong |
| Client | SUEZ NWS / Far East Landfill Technologies / Veolia |
| Technology | Variant 1 — Waste Heat with Thermal Destruction |
The Challenge
NENT required a long-term ammonia treatment solution for leachate with concentrations of 4,500-6,700 mg/L NH4-N, in a joint-operator environment spanning multiple waste management companies over 25 years.
The Solution
Organics Group’s OTAR® Variant 1 system uses approximately 3,000 Nm3/hr of landfill gas to drive thermal stripping and destruction, originally commissioned in 1999 and expanded in 2014, 2019, 2022 and 2024.
Technical specifications
| Leachate flow | 1,400 - 2,500 m3/day (expanded over multiple stages, 1999-2024) |
| Influent ammonia | 4,500 - 6,700 mg/L NH4-N |
| Effluent ammonia | Less than 100 mg/L |
| Fuel source | Landfill gas — approx. 3,000 Nm3/hr |
| Track record | Commissioned 1999; expanded 2014, 2019, 2022 and 2024 |

Why this project matters
- 25+ years of operation across changing site ownership and operators
- Four expansion stages demonstrate long-term reliability and vendor support
- Handles some of the highest ammonia concentrations in the OTAR® reference set
